Are kitchen and bathroom cabinets really that different from each other?

Are kitchen and bathroom cabinets really that different from each other?

Let’s imagine this scenario: you’ve found your perfect cabinets on an affordable price that would look absolutely fantastic in your bath.

You get excited and you are about to ask for a quote but then you notice something disappointing - they are kitchen cabinets and not bathroom cabinets.

This unfortunate situation may be equal to a heartbreak for anyone who’s trying to furnish their dream home, but do you really have to give up on your selected cabinets just because they were meant for a different room?

Are kitchen and bathroom cabinets so different that they can’t be used interchangeably?

Let’s find out!

Bathroom vs. kitchen cabinets

At first glance, bathroom cabinets and kitchen cabinets may look pretty much identical, however, there are some differences between the parameters of these two.

Bathroom and vanity cabinets tend to be shorter and not as deep as regular kitchen cabinets.

This is quite logical as there are plenty of kitchen utensils such as pots, pans, plates and glasses for which your cabinets need to provide enough storage space.

Kitchen and bathroom countertops may also differ in thickness and material.

In spite of these minor differences, the style and appearance of the cabinets can be exactly the same.

So, can I use kitchen cabinets in my bathroom?

So, can I use kitchen cabinets in my bathroom?

The general answer to this question is a “yes”, but there are some important factors you need to consider before installing kitchen cabinets in your bath.

If the kitchen cabinets you want to use have shelves, you will have to remove them to create enough space for the plumbing under your bathroom sink.

Regarding the material of your cabinets, you also have to keep in mind that the humidity level is higher in the bathroom which can damage your cabinets, so choose wisely!

It may seem like customizing kitchen cabinets to fit your bath can get too complicated, but there are some benefits that are worth to mention.

Since kitchen cabinets are usually taller, if you want to use them as bathroom vanities, you won’t need to bend over when using the sink and you will also have more storage for your toiletries, towels and detergents.

Your home, your design

Your home, your design

If you decide to stick with traditional bathroom cabinets in the bath, you may consider matching them with your kitchen cabinets and vice-versa.

Depending on your taste you can choose the same style and finish for your bathroom cabinets as for your kitchen cabinets or choose a different finish that compliments rather than matches them.

If you prefer an eclectic look, you can go for a totally different style in the two rooms, it’s really up to you and your personal taste.
